For those that are new here, my name is Lindsey and I have lived in Florida since the nineteen hundreds (haha have always wanted to say that). I’m originally from New York, so I have had to learn how to cool off down here in the dirty, dirty south. I’ve been pregnant in the Florida summer THREE TIMES, and two of my babies were born in June. One of the best summer pregnancy tips is to wear the least amount of clothes possible. The least amount of clothes a pregnant person wears in the summer the better. Also, when considering various fabrics and blends, choose cotton clothing and undergarments when possible. Not only is cotton natural, but it’s also lightweight, breathable, and absorbs moisture and sweat. 😉

When it comes to keeping cool in the summer when pregnant, pants are out, dresses are in! Dresses are a 100% a pregnancy must have for the summer because they allow for a breeze, keeping you cool and dry! Before we start chugging water, it’s helpful to know how much water to drink when pregnant. Dehydration in pregnancy is not fun, but over doing it on water isn’t good either. I’ve always been told that the energy and heat made from fanning oneself negates the cooling effect of a fan. If that’s true, the electric handheld fan is the pregnant lady’s best friend. You know what I’m talking about – you’ve seen them at theme parks, baseball games, or anywhere big groups of people are outside. And maybe you’ve even looked longingly at them all while overheating yourself. Here is an electric handheld rechargeable fan that a lot of parents are using.
Cooling Cloth
Have you ever used one of those Frogg Togg cooling cloths that athletes use? Guess what? They actually work. Grab one of these to cool you down quickly.
Natural Sunscreen
We all know it’s important to limit exposure to harsh chemicals and toxins during pregnancy. However, when it comes to sunscreen many new parents don’t know what their options are. Do they have to ditch the conventional sunblock when pregnant? The short answer is yes.
Enter mineral based sunscreens. If you’ve never delved into the world of healthier sunscreens, this is good information to know for postpartum as well because babies can’t use conventional sunscreens either! Similarly, many conventional bug sprays should be avoided as well. If your summer plans include being in nature, pack a small bottle of natural bug spray in your bag just in case.

Not only does this spray help with swelling, but it also makes the application of said spray easy-peasy. Remember, getting to the toes later in pregnancy may be difficult! This is another spray to put in your bag for just in case.
Evian Water Spray for the Purse
This is just for fun, but I’ve always enjoyed the pfooft of the evian water spray! It for sure cools the face and neck, feels a bit scandalous, and fits discreetly into a purse or bag.
Hair Ties and Headbands
Ever been in the heat with longer hair but without a hair tie! Don’t get in that spot, and put a few hair ties and a favorite headband in the purse. Getting the hair off the neck cools the body, quickly.
For the Bedroom

Good Ice
I hope you’ve found some good suggestions on this long list of summer pregnancy must haves. I would be remiss if I didn’t talk about the “good ice”. Many people, even those not pregnant, have a thing for “good ice”. It’s easily chewable, cold, and very satisfying on a hot day. Pregnant people love eating this ice from Sonic, Zaxby’s, and Chick-Fil-A. I’ve heard of women in labor stopping in the drive-through at one of these places to get ice on the way to the hospital. Seriously! If you don’t know what I’m talking about, this summer remember to get a cup of ice and see what the fuss is all about. If you’re an ice lover, you’ll swoon over this countertop ice maker.
