Passing Clots in Pregnancy | Mother Rising

At 13 weeks pregnant my baby is the size of a peach. About three inches long and not quite an ounce. Grow baby, grow!

Passing Clots in Pregnancy

The big drama of this week was all my spotting/bleeding/passing clots. You think I would be used to this by now, but man passing clots in pregnancy freaks me out.

At this point in my life I have associated pregnancy and bleeding with death. I wish it weren’t so, but it is.

With my son’s pregnancy I spotted from week 13-17, but ever since I had two miscarriages in a row the bleeding just makes me assume the worst.

Luckily, I’ve had two ultrasounds this week and everything was perfect. I got to see baby moving around so much! She/he has these long skinny arms and legs. Already looks a bit like me. 😀

Nuchal Translucency Screening

Today I had my 12/13 week ultrasound which screened for down syndrome and trisomy. They looked at my baby’s neck to see how thick it was. Apparently everything looked like it was within normal limits.

I also had my finger pricked which gives the doctor some other information to give me the odds of my baby having a genetic issue. Again, the only reason I did this screening was so that I would become even more low risk earlier on in order to avoid extra monitoring later on.

Doc said I’ll get my results in five days.

Anatomy Scan

While I was there I scheduled my next ultrasound appointment for July 27th. I’ll be 20 weeks then and I will hopefully find out the sex of the baby. I guess deep down I’m hoping for a girl. My son insists he’s having a sister. I think my hubby wants a girl too.

Obviously, I would be fine with a boy as well. I’ve always thought I would only have boys. We shall see!

I’ve picked out a girl name that my hubby isn’t too fond of but that I LOVE.

Pelvic Rest

Because of the spotting I have been told, again, that I should be on pelvic rest. At this rate, I think I’ll never NOT be on pelvic rest.

In the past few weeks I have enjoyed swimming, a yoga dvd and lots of walking. I have some better fitting maternity clothes now, so my bloat and my four pound weight gain isn’t bothering me as much as it was two weeks ago. Yay for small victories!

Pregnancy Journal

I think this next week I’m going to bust out my Birthing From Within Keepsake Journal.

keepsake journalIf you like Birthing From Within, you’ll LOVE the Keepsake Journal. It’s a big hardcover book that walks you through your pregnancy, birth and postpartum. There are places to journal, read, draw and try new things (like pain coping practices!). It’s out of print, but you can find some cheap used copies on Amazon. I hope you check it out!

I feel like so far this pregnancy I’ve been very technically minded, and I have this whispering voice in me urging me to connect with myself. I’ve gone through the book as a childbirth educator, but never as a pregnant woman.

I’m very excited to add another layer to this pregnancy. If you’re looking for some good pregnancy journal ideas, here’s a good resource.

1st Trimester Almost Complete

Oh, and does this mean I’m in my second trimester? When does the 2nd trimester start?

YAY! glad to hear it's all good! I think technically the 2nd tri starts at like 13.3 weeks or soemthing like that, so most people just go with 14 ;)
