Do Chickens Have Vaginas? What Hole Do Eggs Come Out?

I've always wondered - do chickens have vaginas, and what hole does an egg comes out of? Is it the same hole as their poop? How does this all work? Chicken eggs may be one of the pregnancy superfoods, but the reproductive and digestive design of a chicken seems super-gross.

Years ago, I was astonished to discover that a chicken's egg comes out of the same hole, called the vent, as a chicken's poop. Originally, I thought that if a chicken's egg comes out of the same hole as its poop, that was a seriously bad design. Chicken poop is gross and smells like rotten cigarette butts! But chickens DO Lay eggs out of their anus! Bear with me, because it's not as bad as you think.

Do Chicken Eggs and Chicken Poop Come Out The Same Hole?

The egg, poop, and urine exit out of the same hole, also known as the vent, as you can see in the photos. But the cloaca is the real hero in this story.

Chickens do not have vaginas, but some people call the end of their reproductive tract, right before it enters the cloaca, a vagina.

The Cloaca

When an egg comes out, the chicken's cloaca is turned inside out so that the egg does not come in contact with the intestines or any fecal matter. I'm happy to report that egg laying is not a bad design! Chicken poop does not come in contact with eggs, unless a chicken decides to walk in it and then put her talons on her eggs. Here's a link for the whole story or check out the video down below to see it in action.

Chickens lay eggs and poop out of the same hole, called the vent. However, because of the cloaca, chicken eggs and chicken poop/pee never mix because the chicken's cloaca turns inside out when an egg is laid. This makes it so an egg and chicken poop never touch.

Do Chickens Have Vaginas?

Chickens do not have vaginas, or what we think of as a vagina. Chickens have only one exit hole called a vent, which is the outermost part of the cloaca. The cloaca is a chamber that the reproductive, digestive, and urinary systems all connect to. This means that eggs and waste all pass through the same opening, but without touching. (Some people call the last bit of a chicken's reproductive tract a vagina, the part right before it enters the cloaca.)

In the cloaca of a female chicken, sperm from a rooster is deposited during mating. The egg then forms in the hen's ovary and travels down the oviduct where it is fertilized by the sperm before being laid. So while chickens may not have vaginas like mammals do, they have their own unique reproductive system that allows them to reproduce and lay eggs.

Some people call the last bit of a chicken's reproductive tract a vagina, the part right before it enters the cloaca. Both eggs and chicken waste exit through the same hole, the vent, but never touch because of the cloaca.

Do Chickens Pee?

Do chickens pee? Chickens do not pee in the same way that humans or other mammals do. Instead, chickens have a chamber called a cloaca, which serves as the meeting place for waste and urine.

When chickens eat food, it passes through their digestive system and is broken down into nutrients that can be used by their body. The waste products from this process, both solid feces and liquid urine, are mixed in the cloaca, and exited through the vent.

The urine produced by chickens is mixed with their feces, forming a substance called uric acid. Uric acid is a white paste-like substance that is expelled along with the solid waste from the cloaca. (Chicken owners know exactly what I'm talking about here!)

Because of this unique system, you won't see chickens peeing like other animals. Instead, they release both solid and liquid waste together when they "go to the bathroom".

Side note: It's important to keep your chicken coop clean to prevent buildup of waste material, as excess ammonia from uric acid can be harmful to chickens' respiratory systems. Regularly cleaning and maintaining proper ventilation in your coop will help ensure your flock stays healthy and happy.

  1. My beautiful chickens are in a cage. Don't have the space to free range. I live with my daughter, my son in law and my 2 grandkids. I have 8 if the most charming ladies!
6 young pullets who are just starting to lay; and 2 hens that are 2 year olds. I talked to them daily and touch them as I talk. When I can I take them, two or three at a time and let them walk around to eat bugs and scratch around . Because the grandkids(10 & 7 years old) have handled them since they were chicks, they are gentle and easy. I feed them laying crmbles, mixed with a little cracked corn and a little whole oats. They lay year round
They are beautiful buff orpingtons with names. They have been great therapy for me, and a great teaching source for my grandkids.

  2. All of you who mock the Lord, I will pray for you. You are in great danger. You might not know it now but you should fear God.

    1. @Josh, if I know that someone is going to murder someone and I could stop it and I didn't I am a murderer so therefore God who knows everything and does nothing to stop it is a murderer

  3. Stand in the middle of a railroad bridge when a train is coming at you and pray your way out of it. Me? I'd jump and take my chances

  4. Thanks for explaining where and how eggs come into the world

    BUT

With regard to some of the comments, you Americans of faith are severely personality disordered - you believe all that superstitious nonsense, Christianity, Judaism, Islam and every other man written woman oppressing religious script and we end up with vile creatures like Trump as head of your state just so you can get your way and promote your ridiculous beliefs - the question was about eggs and which orifice they come out of, not an opportunity to spout fantasy about some peasant 2000 years ago (and his dad) who allegedly died a horrible death to save the world - which all rational people know never happened and in fact precipitated some of the worst atrocities the world has ever known - just saying...

      1. The Chicken, the egg, God, cancer and now Trump as the Atheists' anti-Christ. You Americans are seriously demented with this Trump Derangement Syndrome.

Everybody outside the USA knows it was the Annunaki Scientists, Enkei, Eliel et al from the planet Nubiru and under their leader Annu who genetically edited Australopithecus afarensis with their own DNA to produce seven different versions of Man to create seven seperate armies of slaves. Five have so far survived extinction but each had a different creator under the one 'God' Annu.

Domestic animals like the cow and chicken were also genetically edited from wild animals to provide a stable and manageable food supply for Man.

The second coming is the return of the eleptial orbiting planet Nubiru which will re-enter our Solar System in 1800 Earth years and whose gravity will once again cause a 6 day polar shift and great flood, wiping out most of Mankind.

Make the most of our time here and be nice to each other.

  5. I don't believe in God.
    You may do.
There are 250+ gods you could believe in.
Therefore, I disbelieve 250, you disbelieve in 249, so we're not much different.
However, I do believe that chickens lay eggs out of their butt having read this - brilliant!

  6. How did we go from eggs and shit don’t touch when they come out of chickens to god and cancer like I just want to know if I’m eating shit in my sunny side up eggs
